Two die in attack on Nato convoy in Khyber

KHYBER AGENCY - Two people carrying oil to Nato troops stationed in Afghanistan were killed in an attack on their vehicles by unidentified militants in Sur Kamar area of Khyber Agency, official and locals sources said Thursday.
An official of Jamrud administration said that militants assaulted the Nato convoy with light and heavy weapons in Sur Kamar area of Tehsil Jamrud. The driver of a container identified as Juma Khan belonging to Lukky Marwat received injuries and killed on the spot.
The conductor of the oil tanker, Moeen, a resident of Landikotal and another, Muhammad Ayaz, a resident of Swat, also received injuries in the attack. They were shifted to hospital for treatment, sources said. Later, Muhammad Ayaz succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Local tribesmen said the attackers targeted the convoy of oil tankers on Pak-Afghan border carrying oil for Nato troops in Afghanistan. The vehicles bearing registration number TLJ-805 and C-9066 caught fire and turned into ashes, locals informed.
Soon after the incident, the Khasadar and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel reached the site and engaged the assaulters. After exchange of gunfire the militants managed to escape from the scene. Pak-Afghan highway was also blocked for all kinds of traffic and the security forces, later, opened the highway after clearing the incident site.
In a telephonic conversation with mediamen from an undisclosed location, a militant group, Jaish-e-Khurasan, claimed the responsibility for attack on Nato truckers and vowed they would continue targeting the containers in future.
It merits mentioning here that Jaish-e-Khurasan group of militants has claimed responsibility for a dozen of attacks on Nato supply vehicles in Jamrud a subdivision of Khyber Agency in past. NATO trucks had been targeted a few days back on Pak-Afghan border. A couple of days ago militants had attacked trucks returning from Afghanistan after supplying oil to Nato troops in Afghanistan in the same area. Two transporters, one from Landikotal and another from Lukky Marwat were killed in this attack.
