LAHORE A newly-married bridegroom, who had staged a dacoity-cum-murder drama to mislead the police investigators after killing his Hafiz-e-Quran bride over dowry dispute in Muridkey police precincts on Sunday night, has confessed of his heinous crime on Tuesday. The car, which the parents of the deceased girl could not afford to provide in dowry to their greedy son-in-law, claimed her innocent life. Muridkey police investigators have claimed to unveil the real motive of this killing saying the accused Sajid had committed this crime. 'The bride Shumaila was gunned down by her bridegroom Sajid after her parents could not meet the demands especially they were unable to provide him a new car in dowry, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Liaquat Ali Goraya confirmed while talking to this scribe. He said she was offering prayers when her husband Sajid opened fire on her temple and later wounded himself by shooting on his one leg and staged a drama of dacoity-cum-murder. Insiders said Sajid alongwith his two accomplices including Asghar, accused cousin and a dispenser by profession, and his brother Abid had posed that some notorious dacoits after robbing the house have killed the girl and later fled from the scene. According to them, the accused later shifted Sajid to the Muridkey Tehsil Headquarter Hospital where a police team led by the DSP Liaquat Ali also approached the site to investigate the incident. 'A minor wound of bullet was witnessed on his outer skin, which created suspicion in my mind, the DSP said. Later, we reached the crime scene and collected necessary evidences where Asghar and Abid termed the incident as a dacoity-cum-murder. 'But when police asked which kind of households went missing from the home, the accused stated to police about gold ornaments, cash and other valuables but all of these articles were placed in almirah when a search was launched, DSP added. Moreover, according to Sajid five bullets were fired by unidentified dacoits but the neighbours confirmed that they had listened to the noise of two fires, which were actually fired and the evidence at the crime scene also endorsed the statement of the neighbours. Goraya said when the accused found no way of saving his skin he confessed his crime saying, 'I am sorry I had become greedy at that moment.
