GUJRANWALA - At least ten passengers including six women and a three-year-old child lost their lives and seven others sustained serious injuries when a passenger van was sandwiched between two trucks on Aimanabad Road near village Daataywali near GT Road here on Friday morning. The deceased belong to the same family and were on the way to attend funeral of their relative.
According to details, a passenger van RIP-6920 was on the way to Kamoke when it collided with a truck LHP-2363 coming from the opposite direction while overtaking a car. In the meantime another truck bumped the van from the rear when it overturned.
Resultantly, five women namely Safia Bibi, Basheeran Bibi, Seema Bibi, Azra Bibi and Naseem Bibi, two men identified as Rashid and Muhammad Ali, three-year-old Farhan Ali and driver of the van Waqas were killed instantly while Sabira Bibi succumbed to her wounds in hospital.
Rescue 1122 personnel and locals broke open the body of the van to pull out the injured and rushed them to the DHQ Hospital. According to hospital sources condition of some the injured is stated to be critical.
The police reached at the spot and started investigations.
According to police officials dense fog early in the morning was the cause of the accident.
