Sherpao calls for promotion of Pashto language

PESHAWAR  - Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said that QWP believes in linguistic, cultural diversity and multilingualism in the country and in this connection the party will strive hard to promote Pashto and other national languages and give them their due status.
Addressing a gathering in connection with International Mother Language Day at Watan Kor, QWP chairman said linguistic rights in international law are usually dealt in the broader framework of culture and educational rights. He added being a signatory of the UN charter government should devise strategy for the elaboration of high quality, culturally relevant textbooks and learning materials in the languages of the learning community.
On the occasion, Aftab Sherpao also urged writers, poets and scholars to redouble their efforts regarding promotion and publication of the Pashto language. He maintained that provision of basic education and other legal acts in mother languages can help minimize many problems of the respective communities especially the Pakhtuns and for this purpose QWP will keep struggling to give Pashto language its due status.   
While stressing on the need of promotion Pashto language, QWP Provincial Chairman and KP Senior Minister Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said that he had recently visited Pashto Academy, University of Peshawar and extended full support and cooperation to the academia regarding Pashto language promotion and publication.
