ISLAMABAD - The meeting Judicial Commission of Pakistan regarding the appointment of superior courts judges will be held here today. After the approval of 19th Amendment by the Parliament, now for the first time nine members will participate in the JC's meeting, as two more senior judges of the apex court have been included in the commission on the order on Supreme Court. Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani and Justice Nasir ul Mulk are the new members. Chief Justice of Pakistan Ifthikhar Muhammad Chaudhary is the Chairman of JC and other members include Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Main Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jaillani, Justice Nasir ul Mulk, Justice (Retd) Chaudhary Ijaz Ahmed, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Babar Awan, Attorney General of Pakistan Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq and Dr. Khalid Rajha, representative of Pakistan Bar Council. The Chief Justice had summoned the Judicial Commission's meeting on January 15 for considering the appointment of two apex court judges but due to the death of the parents of Justice Javed Iqbal's, member of JCP, the meeting was postponed. According to sources, the Judicial Commission will consider the names of two senior most judges of Sindh High Court - Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Mushir Alam - for the elevation to Supreme Court. It is worth mentioning here that SHC Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany was the member of the 13-member bench of the apex court, which had declared the November 3, 2007 emergency and PCO as unconstitutional on July 31, 2009. He was promoted to Supreme Court during Abdul Hamid Dogar's period and according to apex court's July 31, 2009 decision, he had to go back to his position of November 2, 2007.
