KARACHI – Two political workers among six people were gunned down in different violent incidents here on Monday. Two workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement were shot dead in a targeted attack in North Karachi area within the limits of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station.
The deceased workers, including Adnan aka Tanki, 32, and Amir, 30, were the residents of New Karachi area. Adnan was the employee of Karachi Municipal Corporation and Amir was the employee of the fire brigade department. Police officials said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted the victims as they left the Town Office. Both were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced their deaths.
Police also claimed to have arrested an alleged target killer red-handed when he was trying to flee after shooting the victims while his other associate managed to escape. They said that the arrested accused was identified as Sajid during initial course of interrogation revealed that he belonged to Lyari gangsters. Police have found the body of a young man near Maripur Road within the limits of Kalri police station. The deceased was later identified as Abid Pervez, 21, resident of New Karachi. SHO said that the initial investigation suggested that the deceased was involved in drug business and had also been arrested earlier by New Karachi Police.
Another body of a young man was found near Kashti Chowk in Old City area within the jurisdiction of Napier police station. The deceased has yet to be identified. Police said that the body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi where doctors confirmed that he was tortured before killing.
The body of the deceased was shifted to the morgue for identification.
At least two armed men riding a motorcycle shot Wajid Qureshi, 52, dead at Korangi Road within the limits of Defence police station. Police officials said that the victim was the general manager at a private garments factory in Korangi Industrial Area. They said that the incident took place when he was returning home from his work. Initial investigation suggested that the culprits shot him dead on offering resistance in a snatching bid. Further investigation was underway.
In another incident, an officer of the Excise and Taxation Department was shot dead in Old City area within the remits of Garden police station. He was identified as Shahid, 30. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. Police said that the deceased was going somewhere when two armed riders shot him dead while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
