ISLAMABAD- Pakistan today blocked all bank accounts of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) and also imposed foreign travel restrictions on Hafiz Saeed, the organization’s leader.
"Pakistan took this decision under the UN obligation and not under pressure from any other quarter including John Kerry," Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said, in a briefing at the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad.
She clarified that Pakistan took immediate action against the organizations banned by the UN sanctions committee. The measures include freezing of their assets and accounts. Assets of all banned organizations in the country have been frozen, she added. The FO spokesperson said the Haqqani network has also been banned; however, she added that the organization did not have bank accounts in Pakistan.
She said Pakistan appreciates the United States for expressing solidarity regarding the Peshawar tragedy. She hoped the United States, being the global power, will discuss border violations with the Indian leadership.
