Shujaat, Mushahid vow to protect national interests

ISLAMAAD PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain and Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed Wednesday vowed to carry forward the mission of safeguarding public and national interests, making the party more cohesive, vibrant and a robust political outfit. Both the PML-Q leaders expressed these views during their meetings with different delegations of party leaders and workers who came from various parts of the country to felicitate them on completion of one year of their election as President and Secretary General of the party respectively. The PML-Q leaders had been re-elected for a three-year term in the intra-party elections on July 20, 2009. Talking to party delegates, the leadership said that PML-Q had strong ideological foundations. We have no personality cult in our party. We are here to serve the party as well as the nation and we will not let down our party workers and our countrymen. We are here with a mission and during the past one year, we made utmost efforts to protect national interests. We used all forums both inside and outside the parliament, to preserve the benefit of the common man, they added. They added that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Allama Mohammed Iqbal and Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah were not only the role models for the Muslim leaguers but they also had provided guidelines for the party to carry forward the mission. Today, PML-Q has emerged as the main opposition party. It has gained strength and has its roots in all the four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan. Its leadership has been amongst the public whenever the nation was faced with a test and represented the opinion of the public with full force on all important issues ranging from Kerry Lugar Bill to Pak-India talks, budget-making process, price hike, fake degrees, and campaign against extremism and terrorism. It has fully supported the independence of judiciary and free media, they added. Answering questions, the PML-Q leaders said the party was a mainstream national political outfit and the doors of PML-Q were open for all leaguers including those who had left the party on their own. We would welcome them with open arms, they added. The PML-Q delegates presented sweets and flowers to the PML-Q leaders on the completion of one year of their election to the posts of president and secretary general of PML-Q. They appreciated PML-Q leadership for being amongst the public on important occasions and rose above party lines on major national issues.
