Matric results delay irks hundreds of candidates

DERA GHAZI KHAN - Like other educational boards of Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education also postponed the announcement of matriculation result for annual year 2011 that disappointed the thousand of the candidates here on Thursday and led to scuffle between the board employees and the students. Hundreds of the candidates thronged the board to know their results as till late Wednesday night it was not clear to the board authorities as well about the fate of the result. Due to the large number of the visiting students with perspective to attend the ceremony of the result along with their parents, their entry was not allowed in the campus from the main gate by the security guards on the orders of the board chairman that also led to the scuffle. The reliable sources told this scribe that the new and the novel system claimed as the latest innovation by the top authorities of the provincial government incurred the extra ordinary delay as it was now part of the announcement at the central level after its completion and compiled status at Lahore. The system made the hundreds of the board officials with in the province functionless rather than drawing their high salaries along with the allowances besides the mental torture to the thousands of the male and female candidates. Till the filing of the report, it was not known to the candidates as to when the result will be announced by Dera Ghazi Khan Board besides the reports for the fixing date as August 4. However, the Deputy Controller Examination Board of Intermediate and Secondary Dera Ghazi Khan told this scribe that they have not been informed yet about such decision if taken so. The heads of the higher secondary schools and the various colleges feared that the delay in the announcement of the result would also delay the next academic session as now they are rescheduling the admission for the first year classes in consultation with the board officers. The candidates said that if the result was not to be announced then the authorities should have announced its postponement in the media keeping in mind the inconvenience to the candidates as well to their parents who travelled from the remote and distant places to attend the event and to know the results. As per the reliable sources, a meeting was held on Wednesday late evening which was presided over by the Secretary Higher Education Commission and attended by the chairmen of all the education boards to decide about the fate of the result and ultimately its unexpected decision irritated the candidates all across the province since the date for the announcement of the result was fixed some two months earlier.
