Clash in Shikarpur leaves five people dead


LARKANA – At least five people were killed and several others wounded in a clash between two rival groups in Madeeji area of Shikarpur district.
According to police officials, the clash between Sadhayo and Dahani tribes ensued at around 8am, leaving four people, including two children, dead.
Besides, several others were wounded in the trade of fire. A police party rushed to the area and brought the situation under control. Those injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were stated to be in critical condition.
Those killed included Abdul Ghafoor alias Ghafoori Dahani, Dil Murad Dahani, Wazir Dahani and 9-year-old Shabbir.
Later, the heirs of the 9-year-old victim staged a protest on Indus Highway. The police meanwhile claimed they arrested several suspects from either side.
According to the officials, an old feud between the two groups had so far claimed 16 lives. Two years ago, their opposition assumed the form of an open conflict in a dispute over the theft of a buffalo in Aachar Sadhayo village.
Meanwhile, The Khaksar Tehreek Larkana chapter organised a convention on “Social Change in Society and role of youth in Pakistan” at Nizamani Labour Hall.
A large number of youngsters from various parts of the province attended the two-day event that was presided over by Khaksar Tehreek chief Dr Sabiha Mashriqi. Besides, notables and several other dignitaries, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Women Wing also participated in the convention.
Speaking at the convention, Dr Mashriqi said there was a dire need that “our youths build their characters and capacity, adding that youngsters were the source of struggle and achievement.
She said that young people were the future of the country and they could change society through collective struggle and by education.  The Khaksar chief further said that rulers should invest heavy budgets on youth education and on their capacity building in each and every district and tehsil for prosperity and development.
Besides Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shahid Rind, Khaksar Tehreek Karachi division leaders Prof Ali Nasar Askari, Nazm-e-Alla Sindh KT Azm-e-Hyder, MB Abro, Anwer Ali, Abdul Qadir Sodher, Abdul Qayoom Dayo and Karim Bux Brohi also spoke at the event.
Meanwhile, The Sindh Sahafi Sangat (SSS) Larkana division has started a membership drive for new bodies on the district and tehsil level to strengthen local journalists and unite them at one platform. SSS chief Noor Sindhi, Allah Bux Kumbhar, M Anjum Bughio, Yousuf Ganghro, Nazir Ahmed and others said the SSS was working for the rights of Sindhi journalists and was uniting them at a single platform to resolve their social issues and differences among them.
The SSS chief said that the main objective of the organisation was to strengthen local journalists.
He said the media was playing a pivotal role in information dissemination but journalists were facing hardships during coverage of events. He appealed to all journalists in the district and tehsil headquarters to unite for their cause.
