Democracy vital for survival of country, says Hashmi

MULTAN - Acting President and Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has said that solution of internal and external threats lie in supremacy of Constitution and continuity of democratic process.
Addressing the National Conference on services of Syed Alamdar Hussain Gilani, father of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, he said that the democratic process would strengthen the federation and maintain supremacy of law and Constitution.
He said that the nation and political parties were supporting the security forces in operation against terrorism, adding, that the days were gone when it was easy to create instability in the country.
He said that the country could not afford weakening of democracy while if democratic process was derailed in the name of accountablity or instability then its consquences would not be positive.
He said that when Martial Law was imposed by Ayub Khan it weakened the federation and replaced this welfare State with national security State.
The Chairman Senate said that when 18th Amendment, memo gate scandal, and disqualification of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani were in process then people were apprehending clash of institutions and risk to democracy but the Parliament took stand and passed the 18th Amendment.
He paid tributes to leader of Pakistan Movement Syed Alamdar Hussain Gilani, for his matchless services in health and education sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Yousuf Raza Gilani said that his father set up a number of educational and health institutions in South Punjab.
Meanwhile,senior politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said that democracy always guaranteed survival of the country.
Addressing the National Conference to pay tributes to leader of Pakistan Movement Syed Alamdar Hussain Gilani, here on Sunday, he said that political parties including PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were symbol of federation.
Hashmi said that promotion of democracy was vital for country's stability.
He also paid glowing tribute to leader of Pakistan Muslim League Syed Alamdar Hussain Gilani, who rendered matchless services in education and health sector in South Punjab.
