A seven-member Kashmiris’ delegation visiting the United Nations Human Rights Council called on senior officials of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) in Geneva, and apprised them about the Indian atrocities in Held Kahsmir, it was officially declared.
The Kashmir delegation comprised Altaf Hussain Wani, the vice chairman of the Jammu Kashmir National Front; Sardar Amjad Yousaf Khan, executive director of Kashmir Institute of International Relations; and Mr Ishtiyaqe Hammed, a leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference. They called on the members of OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission including Justice NANA Adam, Dr Rashid Bin Mamed Al Balushi and OIC Secretariat Director Marghoob Saleem Butt at Geneva on the side lines of 29th session of United Nations Human Rights Council, says an official statement.
The delegation, the statement said, briefed the OIC permanent members about the fresh wave of human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir. The delegation also briefed the OIC Human Rights Commission about the extra-judicial killing s, torture, arbitrary detention, rape and the plight of the relatives of the victims of the enforced disappearance.
The OIC members were told that during last 25 years, over 100,000 Kashmiris had been killed by the Indian army in the breadth and length of Indian occupied Kashmir.
Calling for OIC intervention in the issue of enforced disappearance, the delegation appraised the members that over 3,000 people who have disappeared were married and their wives on one hand are searching for their disappeared husbands and on their other hand they have to take the burden to feed their families which has added to their sorrows.
The delegation also appraised them about the recent extra-judicial killings and the detention of political leaders and the Indian aggression on the Line of Control which has caused loss of life and the resident’s displacement.
The members of the commission said that they would do their best to help end the sufferings of Kashmiris and encouraged the delegation to send the information to the independent permanent commission on regular basis, it added.
