ISLAMABAD : Hundreds of farmers, blocked Quetta-Taftan and Quetta-Karachi highways for all traffic on Thursday to protest prolonged load-shedding in the province saying the chronic power cuts had completely destroyed the agriculture. Protesters pelted stones at vehicles and torched many of them on Quetta-Taftan Highway that caused great inconvenience to the motorists.
Several people were also injured due to firing.
The farmers said that long hours load-shedding had completely destroyed agriculture in Balochistan, adding that despite their several protests before QESCO, authorities did not pay any heed to solve their issue.
The protesters also chanted slogans against government and QESCO authorities.
They called off their protest after administration assured them that their grievances would be addressed and the issue would be taken up with QESCO authorities.
