Cops ordered to curb purse snatching

RAWALPINDI - While taking strict notice of soaring purse snatching incidents from females and others, City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokhar directed all the police officers to evolve a comprehensive strategy to tackle the criminals or else be ready to face the music. In this regard, two circulars have also been issued on Saturday to all the SPs, SDPOs/DSPs, SHOs and incharges of police pickets set up at all the entry points of the district. It is pertinent to mention here that the CPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar toom notice after publishing a number of stories in TheNation exposing the flaws and negligence of police officials deputed at various points to keep a vigil at suspicious elements. CPO Azhar, in the circulars, directed the police high ups concerned that it has come to his notice that the police officials were not frisking loader vehicles attentively included dumpers, pick ups and trucks at the entry points of the district. As in the present circumstances, the loader vehicles were being used by terrorists to hit their targets. Therefore, it was strictly ordered that conduct a proper search of the loader vehicles at all the entry points to avoid any untoward incident, he mentioned. Usually the wrongdoers are two in number. When the ladies come in the markets for shopping, these bike riders snatch their purses and easily manage to flee from the scene. The worst hit areas of purse snatching are Commercial Market, Cannt, Chaklala Scheme III, Sarafa Bazaar, Adyala Road and Tariqabad.
