PML-Q announces to support PTI protest

| Shujaat, Pervaiz retain key slots in party polls

ISLAMABAD -  Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid yesterday announced to support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s protest plan against the government.

Chaudhry Shaujaat Hussain, immediately after his re-election as as the PML-Q president unopposed for four years in the intra-party polls, lent support to PTI against the government.  Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was also re-elected as the president of the party’s Punjab chapter.

General Council members from the four provinces, Fata and foreign countries fully and enthusiastically participated in the meeting held in Islamabad in connection with the intra-party polls.

Pervaiz said on the occasion that PML-Q couldn’t stay out of the sit-in as it had already invited other parties to join it.

Talking to media persons, Pervaiz Elahi said the entire opposition should help PTI in its sit-in against the government. He added the people of Pakistan still remembered the 16 people who had been martyred in Model Town.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvaiz Elahi said that to save Pakistan and the army from the present rulers, all opposition parties should support Imran Khan. “Our rulers speak the language of the enemy of Pakistan, Kashmiris and the army. The government committed a blunder by not accepting ToRs of the opposition and now the Panama leaks case has gone somewhere else,” he asserted.

Expressing gratitude to the general council members, he said Balochistan had always held flag of Pakistan and Muslim League. He paid glowing tributes by naming active workers, leaders and lawyers for their services to the party.

Parvaiz Elahi said: “Imran Khan is presently playing a very important role; no invitation is needed for saving Pakistan, invitation is given to weddings. Imran Khan is not struggling for his personal gains, but for safeguarding Pakistan and its institutions like us. Opposition parties and Imran Khan together should save the nation and the poor from the N-League oppression.” He said: “Balochistan is very dear to us. Pakistan Muslim League is a popular party in all the four provinces. Our party has always played a positive role in every matter whether it is Panama leaks or any other national issue. It is a matter of regret that N-League is getting false news published against the army.”

He said even the Supreme Court has said there is no democracy; rather there is monarchy in the country. “The elder brother talks about construction of hospitals and younger brother talks about leasing out them. Education is not spread merely through distribution of laptops. Closure of 10,000 schools in the Punjab has snatched the right of education from the children of poor people. Orange Line and ‘jangla’ bus are dollars-making projects. The younger brother challenges his rivals to prove his corruption. They will not escape the grip of Almighty Allah; people still remember the Model Town tragedy.”

He greatly appreciated the meritorious services of veteran politician and former federal minister, Anwar Ali Cheema, for the party. On this occasion, Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Ch Zaheeruddin, Naseer Mengal, Sardar Abdur Razzaq, Dr Raj Shaheen, Mian Imran Masood, Syed Mahmud Hashmi, Dr Azeemuddin Lakhvi, Imtiaz Ranjha and Ghulam Mustafa Malik presented resolutions.

In one resolution, Ch Shujaat Hussain was given all powers of the executive committee under Article 52 of the constitution while in others Indian atrocities in Held Kashmir, Indian violation of Line of Control, N-League media cell’s activities against the army and the ruling party’s rejection of opposition’s ToRs on Panama leaks were strongly condemned. Resolutions were also passed in support of farmers living under miserable conditions and abolition of agriculture.

The meeting was also attended by newly-elected Muslim League presidents and general secretaries from all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Fata. Dr Khalid Ranjha filed nomination papers of Ch Shujjat Hussain and Senator Kamil Ali Agha acted as Election Commission chairman. Ms Farrukh Khan, Naseer Khan Mengal, Zafar Bakhatarvi and Syed Mahmood Hashmi were members of the Election Commission.

The meeting was also addressed by Waseem Sajjad, SM Zafar, Ajmal Khan Wazir, Jaffer Khan Mendokhel, Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Tariq Hassan, Dr Khalid Ranjha, Ch Zaheeruddin, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Intekhab Khan Chamakni, Farrukh Khan and Meer Abdul Karim.

Ch Parvaiz Elahi, on his arrival, was warmly welcomed by the participants of the meeting. It was unanimously agreed to elect the party president for four years instead of three years. Maj (r) Tahir Sadiq, Aamir Sultan Cheema, Hafiz Ammar Yasir, Tariq Aziz, Mian Munir, Nasir Duggal, Mian Shehzad Tufail and Makhdoom Babar were also present in the meeting.
