Minister concerned over media bashing of institutions

ISLAMABAD - In an apparent move to calm down the on-going roughness between civilian leadership and military relations after a terrorist attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that it was a matter of serious concern that national institutions are being subjected to media bashing.
Nisar is the first government functionary who has issued s statement condemning the allegations being leveled against ISI after the murder attempt on Hamid Mir.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday, the interior minister said that the attack on Hamid was a tragic incident not only for his family members as well as his organization but also for the journalists and the whole nation. It should be condemned at maximum level, the statement said. “But it is a matter of serious concern that, for the last two days, the state institutions are being attacked making pretext of the incident and these are being alleged without any proof,” the minister said in the statement.
Nisar said that no one could find any example in the world, as important defence institutions were being alleged and criticized. “The worst thing is that our enemies disseminated the negative propaganda about these institution, that was made from specific quarters, all over the world,” he said.
The minister said that this one-sided and negative propaganda was not only worrisome but also condemnable because the officers and personnel of our defence institutions were rendering sacrifices of their lives daily for the defence of the country.  “What is the meaning of these allegations when the government has already formed a commission comprising three senior judges of the Supreme Court,” he said.
