Babus degree verification process gains momentum

ISLAMABAD - Although it took a bit long to gain momentum yet the process of degree verification of bureaucrats and other federal gazetted employees has properly been working, as a large number of employees have submitted their academic certificates with concerned departments for verification. In the process of verification now a large number of degrees with verification have been received to concerned department but still many are yet to get NOC, sources in cabinet division told TheNation. The revised date for degree verification of Islamabads babus and other gazetted employees was (August 8). Following the Prime Ministers official announcement the verification of degrees of approximately 18,869 federal government officers (BS-17 and above) and more than 64,000 officers of autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations etc is being carried out and it has been divided into two phase. It may be mentioned here that earlier the stipulated time for the exercise was 60 days (staring from the date of issuing instructions for carrying out the exercise Marach 8, 2011). Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in an official announcement has also directed the Establishment Division (ED) that educational certificates of the employees working in all federal government institutions should be verified authenticity by the respective institutions. The sources said that during the verification process none was declared as fake degree holder as yet. Earlier, this question was posed in the National Assembly (NA) and in response Minister In-charge of the Establishment division had claimed that if any fake degree case was reported or come to the notice of the concerned ministry, necessary action would be taken under the rules. It would also not be out of place to mention here that the fate of verification of educational documents of hundreds of members of Senate, National Assembly (NA), and Provincial assemblies is simmering on a back burner after the lapse of over nine months. A number of attempts were made to seek comments of Secretary Cabinet Division Nargis Sehti on the issue but her cell phone was switched off.
