RAWALPINDI  - A trial court acquitted a man in the Shahbaz Bhatti murder case after hearing the statement of eyewitness MPA Tahir Naveed Chaudhry on Wednesday. Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No 2 Judge Rana Masood Akhtar announced the verdict to free Abid Malik. Malik was arrested by Islamabad police on February 14. The police had investigated and found him not guilty and submitted a report to the court.
The MPA, in his statement before judge, denied any nomination or statement to police. He said “We do not want any innocent person to be punished in the case.”
Shahbaz Bhatti was murdered last year in Islamabad on his way to office from his residence.
