UoP to plant 60,000 saplings this spring



PESHAWAR - As many as 60,000 saplings are to be planted in this year’s spring plantation drive in the University of Peshawar.
This was revealed by Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan at the closing day of the week-long spring plantation drive at University Model School on Friday.
Prof. Rasul Jan said the University of Peshawar is known for its lush green grass and beautiful trees alongside roads, faculty buildings, hostels and residences of the employees. He added that every effort would be made to ensure and improve the outlook of the campus.
A one-day science and arts exhibition was also held on the day by senior students of University Model School. The arts fair included display of flowers arrangement in Japanese art - Ikebana. 
The Vice Chancellor visited both the exhibitions and was impressed by the creative work of the students. He appreciated the science models comprising windmills and earthquake magnitude readers.
Students presented floral display, skits and physical training performances in connection with the spring season of the country in a ceremony held on the day.
In her welcome address, Principal UMS Javeda Khalid described the spring drive at the school as a move to inculcate the care of nature amongst the students. She added that the school students often make it to professional colleges of the province and have topped ETA tests held in the past two years.
Registrar Dr. Syed Fazl-I-Hadi, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Farooq Swati, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Naeem ur Rehman Khattak, faculty members, staff and students attended the ceremony.
