Chaman - An eight-year-old boy was killed and nine others were injured on Sunday after a bomb planted in a car exploded in border town of Balochistan.
The bomb was planted in the car parked on a market street in the town, which faces Afghanistan’s town of Spin Boldak and has seen several bomb and suicide attacks in the past, and was detonated by a remote control, police said.
In the powerful blast on Taj Road, a child identified as Zabihullah was killed while nine others were injured, senior police official Habib Baluch said. The injured were moved to District Civil Hospital Chaman, he added. The blast also destroyed two vehicles and a motorcycle. It was not yet clear who was behind the attack.
“An eight-year old boy was killed and six others were wounded when a bomb planted on a car exploded in Taj Bazaar,” local police station chief Agha Mohammad told AFP. Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani confirmed the bombing and casualties. Durrani said four of the wounded had been discharged from hospital after treatment.
SEVEN BODIES RETRIEVED AFTER COAL MINE COLLAPSE
Rescue workers on Sunday retrieved the bodies of seven people killed in a coal mine collapse. The mine collapsed on Thursday burying the miners. A rescue worker was killed during the search operation when he was buried under rubble. His body was retrieved on Thursday.
“A section of the coal mine caved in on Thursday and seven miners were buried in the rubble.
A rescue worker also died during the search operation,” local government official Shahzeb Kakar told AFP. Kakar said that arrangements were being made to return the bodies to the victims’ families.
Pakistani mines are notorious for poor safety standards and bad ventilation. Last month a gas explosion killed eight coal miners in the same district. At least 43 workers were killed in March 2011 when explosions triggered a collapse in a coal mine in Balochistan.
