Altaf urges party workers to continue peace efforts

KARACHI - Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Quaid, Altaf Hussain, has condemned the incidents of heavy firing by criminal elements in Malir, Khokhrapar and Landhi, and expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the killings of MQM workers and sympathisers. In a statement Altaf Hussain said that MQM was a peace-loving political party and it was strenuously striving to promote peace and stability in Sindh, particularly in Karachi. He said that MQM was making all-out efforts to promote brotherhood and cordial relations among various segments of the society living in the province. He said that criminal elements were bent upon spoiling the efforts of the MQM aimed at bringing peace and stability by their wicked actions. He asked the govt to initiate indiscriminating action against the elements that were responsible for spoiling the peace of the city. He also called for protecting the life and property of the public. He appealed to the MQM workers and sympathisers not to get provoked at the armed terrorism of the criminal elements. He asked them to restrain their emotions and continue their endeavours for bringing peace and stability. Altaf Hussain once again appealed to all the religious and political parties to play their role for restoration of durable peace, infusing the feelings of brotherhood and bringing stability in Sindh, particularly Karachi. He sympathised with the bereaved family members whose loved ones lost their lives in the terrorist attack and prayed for the divine forgiveness of the departed souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Meanwhile MQM Coordination Committee has condemned the attack and firing by the criminal elements on the localities in the areas of Malir and Khokhrapar. They expressed their grief and sorrow over the death of MQM workers and sympathisers as a result of heavy firing by the armed terrorists. They said that the area of Malir was completely peaceful when criminal elements riding in cars and motorcycles started firing indiscriminately on various points in Khokhrapar area of Malir resulting in the death of several MQM workers and sympathisers and serious injuries to many others. These criminal elements also resorted to firing in Landhi as well in order to terrorise general public. They said that fear expressed by the committee a few days ago had been borne out by the terrorism in Khokhrapar, Malir. The committee said that government had failed to act promptly which was highly reprehensible. The terrorists remained in the area for several hours and continued to terrorise general public but the government and the administration failed to act quickly. The situation could have been controlled if the government and administration acted without delay. The Coordination Committee demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Provincial Home Minister Manzoor Wassan to take serious notice of the killings of MQM workers and sympathisers in Khokhrapar.
