Multan: Thirty nine children sustained injuries after a roof of an old school collapsed today. According to our sources, nine students were shifted to Nishtar Hospital for treatment after the incident.
Two teachers, who were present in the school when the roof collapsed, were also rescued. Some more children are feared to be trapped in the rubble.
A large number of parents and locals gathered outside the school, alleging that the roof collapse was caused due to on-going construction of shops, by the principal next to the building.
Meanwhile, police arrived at the scene and took the school principal into custody. Angry mob including locals and relatives surrounded the police van and hurled stones at the vehicle. They demanded that school principal should be handed over to them however, the police managed to evacuate him safely.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and directed authorities, to provide the best health facilities to the injured children. As Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident, the District Coordination Officer (DCO), SSP Operations and other district officials arrived at the scene.
A four-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
