Army to defend every inch of Pakistan: Gen Sharif

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Friday visited the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) near Kharian, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Commander of the Strike Corps, Lt-Gen Umar Farooq Durrani, apprised the army chief that about various aspects of NCTC. So far, Durrani said, 231,000 troops 3,483 personnel of police and civil-armed forces have been trained at NCTC.

The Strike Corps commander said that five joint exercises have also been conducted at NCTC with countries - including China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Turkey.

On the occasion, General Sharif inaugurated state-of-the-art facilities to upgrade NCTC’s infrastructure that would help accommodate foreign armies and local law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

Addressing the troops, the army chief said, “Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism for over a decade and sacrificed a lot but we have turned the tide against terrorism primarily due to resilience displayed by the whole nation and professionalism of our security forces.”

“Let there be no doubt that our valiant armed forces have the capability to counter complete threat spectrum.

“With the backing of entire nation, we will defend each and every inch of our beloved country, no matter what the cost,” said General Sharif.
