ISLAMABAD - Communication sector of the country faced huge destruction due to flash floods and still waiting for finance for reconstruction, received almost half funds under the Poverty Reduction Strategy Programme (PRSP) during the first quarter of the current fiscal year as compared to same period of the last year. Apart from other losses, the recent floods badly destructed roads, highways and bridges caused large number of problems for commuters in almost all provinces, was in need of speedy reconstruction. While the incumbent government spent Rs 3,335 million, which was half of the finance as compared to the last financial year. The government spent Rs 7,386 million on development of roads, highways and bridges during last financial year, when situation was comparatively much better as compared to this year, according to PRSP budgetary expenditure figures. "The delay in reconstruction may further increase in inflation as slow mobility due to damaged infrastructure directly harm the market," economic experts suggest, adding that due to delay or non-availability of basic commodities there would be a significant difference of situation in the market. According to the report, the government spent Rs 3,335 million for development including Rs 1,922 million in Punjab, Rs 519 million in Sindh, Rs 247 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Rs 647 million for Balochistan. While, Rs 7,386 millions were spent last financial year, in which, Rs 5,447 million in Punjab, Rs 122 million in Sindh, Rs 1,692 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Rs 124 million in Balochistan.
