CJ takes suo moto notice

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo moto notice on the application of Zubaida Yaseen, widow of Muhammad Yaseen and a resident of Sheikhupura, stating therein that as per existing benevolent fund rules, the widows of those government servants who died after their retirement, were allowed financial aid out of the benevolent fund for a period of fifteen years from the date of their retirement, whereas the widows of those who died during service, were allowed financial aid for life time. She requested that the widows whose husbands died after retirement should also be allowed financial aid out of the benevolent fund for lifetime and in that regard existing rules might be amended. She also prayed for increase in the benevolent fund. Taking the notice CJ directed, This application be forwarded to the Chief Secretary, Govt of Punjab for examining the request of the applicant in the light of the existing rules (Punjab Govt Servant Benevolent Fund (Disbursement), Rule, 1965 and the recommendations of the Ombudsman, copy of which is attached with and relevant extract has also been reproduced in the application. He may look into the possibility of amending the rules in the interest of families/ widows of the retired government employees of the Province. He may submit report within 4 weeks for perusal and passing necessary orders.
