Aiming to create awareness among the masses about children’s right to education, Universal Children’s Day was observed here the other day.
In this connection, Anjuman Taraki-e-Niswan (ATN) organised a seminar at Children Academic Centre.
Addressing the seminar, ATN chairperson Mrs Kiran Shehzadi said it was very unfortunate that the cases of child abuse and exploitations were being reported on daily basis. “Thar disaster is one example of ignoring the children’s right to survival, our national spending on health and education are already much lower and comparatively least in South Asia,” she added.
She said that there was immediate need to devise a child protection system in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Children Academic Centre Principal Nadia Shafi said that the provincial and federal governments were not concerned about the child rights. “We are celebrating 25th anniversary of convention on the rights of children but yet to legislate the implementation mechanism for the constitution right of free and compulsory education Article 25-A”, she added.
Child Right Activists Arsalan Idrees Chattha said there was a dire need for a uniform child protection policy and system. The juvenile justice system was not operational according to its spirit, children in conflict with law were also vulnerable, he said.
He urged the government to take concrete steps to mend the state of human right in general and child rights in particular.
