Energy generation vital for economic progress: President

ISLAMABAD- President Mamnoon Hussain has said, efficient energy generation and management system is indispensable for economic progress of the country.

Opening a three-day ‘International Conference on Energy Systems and Policies,’ in Islamabad today, he pointed out that energy shortage had adversely affected the life of common man and economy with impact on national security.

The President noted that the government had started several hydro, solar and coal-based projects, which are also important for diversification of energy mix.

Addressing the conference, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt said Pakistan has the requisite human resources to overcome the energy crisis. He said the international community should also set aside their misperceptions about Pakistan and come forward for assistance to solve the problem.

Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Mukhtar Ahmad, in his remarks, said the universities should come up with solutions on the problems faced by the country, including energy and water shortages.
