FCCI stresses overhaul of foundry

FAISALABAD - Foundry, the second largest sector of the local industry after textile, needs immediate steps for its upgradation to bring it at par with the international standards, said the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
FCCI President Engineer Rizwan Ashraf was addressing an introductory sitting in connection with 5th International Foundry Congress and Exhibition to be held at Lahore on December 2-3 next year under the auspices of Pakistan Foundry Association.
He termed metallurgy mother of the industrial sector, and said, “Pakistan lags far behind in this sector and we must make immediate, result-oriented and conscious efforts for its planned and scientific development. Most of the spare parts of textile machinery are being cast in local foundries while this sector has also played an important role in the manufacturing of agricultural appliances that helped Pakistan to increase its farm production. However serious efforts have yet not been made to develop foundries on modern lines in addition to resolving its problems confronted by this energy intensive sector.”
The FCCI president welcomed the organisation of 5th International Foundry Congress and Exhibition, and urged upon the foundry owners and its workers to attend this event.
