Nawaz likely to meet Singh

NEW YORK - Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN Ambassador Masood Khan said on the occasion of UN General Assembly session‚ Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will highlight damages caused by drones in Pakistan.
In an interview with State Television in New York‚ Masood Khan said a meeting is likely between Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh‚ in which matters relating to promotion of bilateral ties and peace are likely to be discussed. The Ambassador said Nawaz Sharif will also highlight measures taken by Pakistan for peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
He said during his visit‚ Prime Minister will also attend three Summit Forums and hold meetings with different world leaders. Meanwhile, Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs‚ Sartaj Aziz has said that the government is determined to formulate a strong and sustainable foreign policy.
In an interview in New York‚ he said that the government is seriously contemplating to bring a shift in country’s foreign policy.
Regarding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s address to the General Assembly session‚ Sartaj Aziz said during his address the Prime Minister will highlight Pakistan’s stance on key issues.
He said the General Assembly is an appropriate forum to elaborate the policies being pursued by the government.
In a statement, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has condemned the suicide attack at a church in Peshawar, stating it is yet another deeply disturbing manifestation of the evil forces of terror.
In a statement, he said such barbaric acts are against the tenets of every religion.
“The horrific suicide attack at a church in Peshawar is yet another deeply disturbing manifestation of the evil forces of terror. That the attack took place at a place of worship and claimed the lives of dozens of innocent worshippers makes this senseless act of violence even more tragic,” he said.
“Such barbaric acts are against the tenets of every religion. India condemns the terrorist attack in Peshawar in the strongest terms. We convey our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish speedy recovery to the injured,” he added.
