The local government election in eight out of 10 wards of Multan Cantonment will take place today (Saturday) as army troops have been deployed here on Friday. The polling will begin at 8:00am and continue till 5:00pm.
The candidates in two wards had won unopposed while 26 others are in the run from eight wards. Out of them, as many as six belong to PML-N, eight PTI and 12 independent.
The PML-N candidate from Ward - Ch Tariq Niaz and PTI candidate from Ward-10 Col (r) Zaigham Tayyab won unopposed. The Returning Officer distributed ballot boxes, stationary and other items among the presiding officers in presence of army, which were sent to the polling stations on Friday evening. Sources said that over 500 army jawans and officers as well as police troops were deployed at polling stations for security.
