170 kids rescued in Punjab, 310 remain missing, SC told

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Government has filed a report in the Supreme Court regarding child kidnappings in Punjab in which it has been stated that 170 out of 310 minors have been recovered.

The report filed today stated that no organised network behind kidnappings has been traced so far.

Justice Saqib Nisar remarked during the hearing that anti-state elements were spreading rumours and social media should not paid heed to it.

According to a police report issued earlier, over 6,500 children were abducted in the past six years out of which over 3,000 were rescued.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Sukhera had stated that majority of the cases involving children that were missing surfaced because the kids ran away from their houses due to violence or unpleasant environment and did not return.

He said that while some were actual abductions, the majority of the cases had other reasons behind missing children.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on August 1 to discuss the issue and the overall law and order situation across the province.
