Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has pledged to make an all-out effort to raise literacy rate in Narowal, besides, curbing menace of backwardness of the region through the promotion of quality education in a few years.
Addressing an inaugural ceremony of a local private college at Narowal the other day, he said that the PML-N government would promote quality education and provide opportunities to students with a sole aim to provide higher education at local level.
He told the participants that he had got regularly started the postgraduate classes at local government degree colleges for boys and girls, establishment of Narowal Campus of IT University and upgradation of more than 100 different government schools in the district. The Federal Minister also announced to establish an international standard medical college and campus of the Punjab University at Narowal.
NAORWAL BUDGET APPROVED: The Narowal District Government has unanimously approved Rs5.33 billion budget for the fiscal year 2013-14. DCO Syed Najaf Iqbal told the newsmen that the Rs4.32 billion had been allocated for the salaries, Rs180 million for old development schemes, Rs368 million for new development schemes, Rs39 million for construction of government buildings and roads, Rs91 million for agricultural development, Rs2.9 million for environment, Rs2 million for fisheries, Rs70 million for Livestock development, Rs68 million for road infrastructure, Rs4.5 million for Civil Defence, Rs3.7 million for Excise Department, Rs3.6 million for forests, Rs659 million for health facilities and Rs3.27 billion had been allocated for education promotion in the district, he added.
RAIN: After the three days long dry spell, the torrential lashed out the Sialkot region. All the 10 Ramazan Bazaars also remained inundated.
There was knee-deep water in these bazaars till after noon, which kept the buyers away. The heavy rain lashed out the entire Sialkot district, inundating the Sasta Ramzan Bazaars established by the district administration in Sialkot district’s all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils for providing the financial relief to the common people during the Holy month of Ramazan.
The knee-deep water was standing there, keeping the people away. The routine working of these bazaars could not pick up due to heavy rain. It was the second torrential during the ongoing fresh spell of the heavy monsoon rains in Sialkot region.
The torrential rain began very early in the morning and remained continued intermittently the whole day today. The supply of the daily used commodities including fruits and vegetables to the bazaars was also delayed due to heavy rain and mostly these commodities reached there after noon. District administration had established as many as ten Sasta Ramzan Bazaars in Sialkot district.
Reportedly, Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur cities remained inundated the whole day, badly paralysing all the civic, business, trade and social activities. The rain also inundated all the low-lying urban and rural areas of Sialkot region, forcing the people to come out on the roads and in the streets to enjoy. The sizzling hot weather beaten people enjoyed much the pleasant weather after the most awaited wide-spread heavy rain in Sialkot region.
