New PM should write Swiss letter, says Naheed

MULTAN - Political secretary to slain PPP chairman Benazir Bhutto Naheed Khan and former senator Dr Safdar Abbasi said on Sunday that it was unfortunate that PPP became dependent on its allies for getting its prime minister elected.
Addressing a joint news conference here after condoling the death of senior politician Malik Atta Ullah, they added that the PPP was held hostage by ANP and PML-Q because of poor policies of current rulers. They said that new prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was a good political worker but the country was faced with serious financial and power crisis. “He has to face a very tough situation. The country is going for new elections in next six months and if the prime minister fails to steer it out of crisis, his party might fail in the polls,” they anticipated.
They pointed out that a new crisis in terms of government-judiciary confrontation was brewing in the country. “In order to overcome this crisis, the Prime Minister should write letter to Swiss courts,” they added. They warned that the new prime minister would have to sacrifice his post like Multani premier if the confrontation with Supreme Court continued. They asked the govt and PPP leadership to consult senior lawyers on this issue and obey court orders.
They suggested to the prime minister to set up a transparent and impartial election commission with the consultation of opposition for holding transparent elections in the country.
They said that they did not need to create any group in PPP and instead they would get the party freed from illegal occupants. They added that PPP was the party of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s workers and these workers would not flinch from offering any sacrifice for the protection of ideology of Benazir.  They claimed that the workers were being neglected by the PPP leadership. “The workers lament that their mother (Shaheed Bibi) has gone and now they are left stranded. The workers are deprived of their identity,” they added. They maintained that those who faced jails, rendered sacrifices and who were lashed for taking the name of PPP were expelled from the party. “The CEC membership of Safdar Abbasi is abandoned for taking and raising the name of Benazir Bhutto. But we’re determined to continue our struggle,” they added.
