ISLAMABAD- The Senate of Pakistan contributed Rs 5 million from the Senate Emergency Relief Fund to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan Agency.
This decision was one of the first from any institution in the country and was taken by Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari. He consulted with the Leader of the House Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq and Leader of the Opposition Senator Aitzaz Ahsan.
A cheque of Rs 5 million was handed over to the Commander Logistic Area, Maj. General Sherazi at General Headquarters, Rawalpindi.
The Parliamentary Party leaders and Senate members across the party lines had expressed solidarity with the Armed Forces while discussing the Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the House on the eve of announcement by the government in this regard. Their concern over the hardship to be faced by the civilians of the areas where the operation must be undertaken caused the senators and elected leadership of the Senate of Pakistan to provide support.
