Missing person case: IHC summons ISI DG

ISLAMABAD - Hearing a petition pertaining to missing person Mohammad Arif filed by his wife Parveen Bibi, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday directed Director General Inter-Services Intelligence to appear before court next week with an affidavit pertaining to the custody of the man. Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan heard the petition.
During proceedings, Parveen Bibi’s attorney informed the court that Mohammad Arif and two others were taken into custody by the ISI a few months ago. The attorney said those taken into custody with Arif had been released a few days later, while he was still in ISI custody.
The prosecution counsel sought six months time to submit reply but the court, expressing anger, asked DG ISI to appear before it next week.
Separately, the Supreme Court (SC) Monday sought from government the details of all internment centers operating in the country and number of persons detained therein.
The court also issued notices to attorney general (AG) and home secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).  Justice Nasirul Mulk presided over a three-member bench of SC during the course of hearing of Fazle Rabbi missing person case.
Justice Nasirul Mulk remarked, “Missing persons’ issue is a matter of paramount importance. We cannot close our eyes to the breach of fundamental rights of the citizens”.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 7.
