Students annoyed at stagnant sewage, stin

BAHAWALNAGAR
Stagnant sewage and water is the permanent nuisance for the students of Government Girls Elementary School Chaweka in absence of sewerage and sanitation systems there while the classes have to be managed on the streets linked to the school amidst unbearable stink of the sewage.
In spite of the staff recruited for the purpose, the minor kids have to drain out the stinking water and sewage from the school as the authorities concerned are indifferent to the abysmal situation. The government school was established in 1987 as a girls’ primary school and later upgraded as middle school in 1989. A total of 147 students are enrolled and 9 teachers are posted here.
The teachers are forced to conduct classes in the streets outside the school as it is inundated with rainwater and sewage especially during rains. The stagnant sewage and its foul smell are the permanent features which always annoy the people of the area too.
The teachers and the students are forced to continue their educational responsibilities in the aggravated situation. The headmistress of the school said that due to adverse conditions, they were forced to conduct classes in the streets even during exams. She said that she had informed the local high-ups repeatedly for remedy to the situation but to no avail.
A teacher said that they had to discharge their duties amid foul smell of stagnant sewage. A minor student said that rain and sewage water entered and floods the school and forced them to sit in the streets. She demanded the authorities should drain out the water at the earliest.
It was learnt that local authorities had visited the school last September and got the water drained out but it was not a permanent solution to the issue.
When contacted, Executive District Officer (Edu) Dr Javed Muzaffar said that matter was not in his notice. However, he pledged to resolve it at the earliest.
