LHC issues notice to Altaf Hussain

Lahore -

The Lahore High Court issued notice to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Altaf Hussain on a civil miscellaneous application requesting to stop media coverage of MQM chief’s address or speech from London here on Friday.
Petitioner Fayyaz Ahmad Mehr filed an civil miscellaneous application in his main petition and submitted that the respondent (Altaf Hussain) was set to address telephonically his party leaders and workers on Saturday (today) from London.
He said situation could be worse if Altaf Hussain was allowed to address again. He requested the court to ban media from coverage of his speech and address from London.
The court, however, remarked that before passing any order, it would be appropriate to hear the respondent’s point of view.
On the main petition, the court already had issued notices to Federal government, Interior and Foreign Ministries and Altaf Hussain.
The petitioner, in his main petition, had adopted the stance that Altaf Hussain being a foreigner and chief of MQM addressed his party leaders and workers on May 12.
The petitioner said he (Altaf Hussain) threatened the Election Commission, establishment, media, politicians and also demanded to separate Karachi from Pakistan.
The petitioner argued Political Party Order 2002, allowed only citizens of Pakistan to form an association or a political party.
Therefore, he said, the respondent being a British national could not claim to be the chief of a political party registered in Pakistan.
He argued loyalty to the State was the basic duty of every citizen under Article 5 of the Constitution but Altaf Hussain used such words and language which was against the ideology of Pakistan.
Fayyaz prayed to the court that Altaf Hussain be restrained from claiming as chief of MQM and be brought to justice.
The court will resume hearing after two weeks.
