HUB - At least three people were killed and 15 others including three police personnel sustained injuries in a motorcycle bomb blast in industrial town of Hub on Sunday night.
Police said that convoy of son of President Mamnoon Hussain was passing through the area when the motorcycle bomb explosion hit it, leaving three dead and 15 others injured. President Mamnoon’s son escaped unharmed.
“The convoy of the president’s son, Salman Mamnoon, and DPO Lasbela Bashir Brohi was passing through the area when a huge explosion occurred in front of Juma Khan Hotel near Bab-e-Balochistan,” a senior police officer in Hub told newsmen, a private TV channel reported.
Unknown men planted explosives in the motorcycle and parked it near the restaurant on RCD Highway and detonated it with remote control when the convoy was passing through the area, a police official said, adding that as a result of the explosion, three people were killed and 15 others including three personnel of the escort of the convoy received injuries.
The police further said that the convoy was returning back to Karachi from a farmhouse in Lasbela district owned by a high-profile personality. The rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the dead and injured to Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital, Hub.
Later, some of the injured were referred to Karachi due to their critical condition.
The law enforcement personnel have cordoned off the entire area to trace out the suspects. Further probe was underway.
According to police sources, the blast was so loud it was heard in distant areas of the city. Glass windows of nearby shops were shattered after the explosion as panic spread among local residents.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb attack.
Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch condemned the blast and announced free medical treatment for the wounded.
Insurgency-hit Balochistan has been frequented with militant attacks and has been a subject of several army operations over the years.
Just last month the government said it would enhance the military operation in Balochistan after 20 labourers were gunned down in Turbat. Army chief General Raheel Sharif had also vowed to stand by the people of Balochistan in bringing peace, stability and prosperity to the province.
