KARACHI: Pakistani nationality has been taken as highly non-serious issue owing to which anyone from any country who lands on Pakistani soil might obtain Pakistani nationality by evening.
There are numerous people from Afghanistan and Iran who have Pakistani passport and when any such is arrested anywhere in the world, it is Pakistan that pays for the price.
Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh of Sindh High Court (SHC) passed these remarks while hearing a case for grant of permission for award of Pakistani nationality to two Indian women, Shah Naz and her daughter Shabana.
The higher court asked the lawyers of the petitioners to satisfy the court if the petition was hearable on which the petitioners’ lawyer in his argument apprised the higher curt that Shah Naz belonged to neighbouring country, India who married a Pakistani man Haji Muhammad. She had migrated to Pakistan after marrying Muhammad.
Her daughter Shabana, after death of her husband, was married to another Pakistani man and hence both are now Pakistani citizens but the federal interior ministry is rejecting to award Pakistani nationality to them.
Justice Shaikh in his remarks said that everyone whose Visa gets expired should return to his/her country of origin.
He asked the petitioner’s lawyer whether he knew about the problems of Pakistani nationals on visit to India just one day after expiry of their Visa and how Indian authorities treat them.
He said that if the court would allow any Indian national to get the Pakistani nationality, whole of India would slip intoPakistan. The court adjourned the hearing until June 14 next month
