UNHCR to swell Afghan refugees return package



PESHAWAR - UNHCR will offer enhanced return package to every registered Afghan refugee family voluntarily repatriating from Pakistan to Afghanistan till December 2012.
The UNHCR enhanced package would include various types of non-food item assistance (such as blankets, quilts, plastic sheets and a number of other items.
Moreover, these packages are being distributed to returning families at the Chamkani, Timergara and Baleli Voluntary Repatriation Centres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Besides, the returning refugee families will also be offered one-time free transport support, for those who wish to avail themselves of it, from the VRCs to the Encashment Centres in Afghanistan.
These increases in UNHCR’s assistance for voluntary return will be provided only by December 31, 2012, although the voluntary repatriation operation will continue after 2012.
The standard $150 cash assistance is also being reviewed by UNHCR and will be continued in future.
It is worth to mention here that after the expiry of the deadline December 2012, stay of all Afghans will be illegal in Pakistan and the government will take action against such refugees.
