PESHAWAR - In order to protest against torture and harassment of a Peshawar-based journalist by police, media men boycotted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly proceedings and demanded the government to suspend the SHO of the concerned police station. Journalists also demanded government to probe into the incident and avoid happening of such happenings in future.
The journalists boycotted assembly proceedings against the harassment of Mir Kamal, a journalist affiliated with a national daily, at the hand of police during search operation in the jurisdiction of Yakatoot Police Station.
Despite his introduction, police barged into the house of Mir Kamal under the supervision of DSP Riazul Islam and SHO Yakatoot Police Station Shahjehan and subjected the journalist to sever torture.
To pursue journalists, lawmakers from treasury benches came out from the assembly proceedings but they failed to bring the media men back to the House as they were protesting against the torture of their colleague at the hands of Yakatoot police.
They were demanding government to suspend the SHO of the Yakatoot Police Station, probe into the incident of harassing journalist and stop happening of such incidents in future.
The journalists covering KPK Assembly proceedings left the assembly proceeding and held a meeting at the Peshawar Press Club and condemned the police attitude with journalists and called for action against the SHO and other policemen of Yakatoot Police Station immediately.
