Six of a family among 8 killed in Swabi

SWABI  - Six members of a family were gunned down and eight others injured when unknown armed men opened indiscriminate firing on a pick-up at Yar Hussain village of Swabi district on Friday. 
Station House Officer (SHO) of Yar Hussain Police Station Ijaz Khan informed the victims and injured were on way from their home to Peshawar International Airport to bid farewell to one Adnan Khan, who was serving in Saudi Arabia.
District Police Officer Sajjad Khan told The Nation that the incident was occurred at night when Adnan Khan along with his family members were on way to Peshawar Airport to board the flight. When the ill-fated family reached Gulabad area, he said, some unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on them.
He said that five of them were killed on the spot while one of the injured succumbed to injuries in the hospital. “Five of the injured people were stated to be in critical condition and they have been shifted to Peshawar for medical treatment.
The incident infuriated the people and they picked the dead bodies and placed them at Adina Bridge on Swabi-Mardan road, blocking the road for all kind of traffic, demanding the arrest of killers.
Leaders of the political parties also joined the protestors. DPO Sajjad Khan, who reached the protesting venue, had told the jirga members and protesting people that the culprits would be arrested within 72 hours.
After his assurance, the people dispersed peacefully, taking the dead bodies to their home. Later they were buried amid moving scenes. Injured Jamshad Khan who registered an FIR against the unidentified killers told the police that their family had no enmity with anyone and they did not know what had caused the gory incident. A police official told this correspondent that the incident was seemed the result of a family dispute.
Soon after the incident, DPO constituted a five-member committee, comprising SP Investigation Nisar Ahmad Khan, DSP tehsil Chota Lahor Izhar Shah, DPS tehsil Razaar, Inyatullah Shah, Station House Officer of Yar Hussain Police Station Ijaz Khan and SHO Kalu Khan Police Station Haroon Khan. DPO would supervise the committee. The DPO told the committee members to submit the report as soon as possible.
In addition, police said that soon after the incident a search operation was launched by quick response force to nab the killers. Security had been tightened at all outlets and key points. “We have arrested three suspected persons with Kalashnikovs. Their investigation is underway and we hope that the pledge made with protesting people will be fulfilled,” said an official. The killed persons were identified as Adnan Khan, Zeeshan Khan, Ayaz Khan, Ameen Khan, Shahab Khan and Musarat Bibi while the injured were identified as Jamshad Khan, Mohazan Khan, Nasir Khan, Qaisar Khan, Nosher Khan, Hilal Khan, Umer Khan and Razi Khan.
Meanwhile, three people, including two brothers, were killed over a woman dispute here at Kalu Khan Village.  Officials said that soon after the incident they succeeded to avert more killing when they arrested three persons.
Those killed in the violence incident identified as Muhammad Ishaq, Fawad Khan and Naveed Khan. Till the filing of this report, none of the two groups registered FIR against each other.
