LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has criticized the idea of shaking hands with an ‘enemy’, on the day when founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born.
The JI leader has denounced Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s efforts to boost diplomatic ties with India, by receiving Indian counterpart at the Lahore airport and hosting him at his house in Jati Umra.
Haq said that shaking hands with Modi is equivalent to not acknowledging deaths in Kashmir and those along the border. Modi had also spoken against Pakistan Army, he added.
On December 25, when the nation was celebrating Quaid-e-Azam Day, Narendra Modi dropped by Lahore to see Nawaz and wish him as it happens to be the Prime Minister’s birthday also. Modi was on a visit to Afghanistan where he met President Ashraf Ghani and addressed Afghan lawmakers. The leaders vowed to continue efforts to restore peace in the region with main focus on Afghanistan.
On his way back to Indian capital, Modi landed in Lahore where Nawaz Sharif among federal ministers received him. He was shifted to Jati Umra where both the premiers held a one and half hour long meeting. The leaders exchanged pleasantries and goodwill gestures. Nawaz and Modi vowed to strengthen ties between the two neighboring nations. Prime Minister Nawaz went to the airport afterwards to see his Indian ‘friend’ off.
