FAISALABAD - A seminar and an awareness walk on International Mother Language Day was held here to spread awareness about linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism at the University of Faisalabad.
The day aims at raising public awareness about importance of mother language. In this context, The University of Faisalabad arranged a seminar followed by an awareness walk at Saleem Campus. Speaking on the occasion, Director Research & Publication Mr Saleem Akhtar Kayani spoke on the significance of mother language. He said that languages were the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing heritage. The first school for a child is the lap of its mother where a child learns the mother language, he added.
He said that English was an international language, but importance of Urdu cannot be ignored. He urged the students to learn Urdu language comprehensively, along with English and other foreign languages. He also highlighted the importance of Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pushto and other local languages.  Ms Jaweria, Fatima, Nimra Hanif, Shaesta Manzoor, and Iqra Iqbal, students from different departments of the University also expressed their views on the subject.
