PESHAWAR - The interim cabinet of the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) on Wednesday demanded of the provincial government to implement service structure and regularise ad-hoc doctors, warning that otherwise they would opt for agitation if necessary action within a month.
Speaking at a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club, PDA newly elected President Dr Abdul Qadir asked the government to revise the ‘Essential Service Act’ and give proper service structure to the doctors community.
He also called for the regularization of all adhoc doctors in the province and appointment of medical officers through Public Service Commission, adding he also alleged that certain elements in the heath department having mala fide intentions behind the plan.
Flanked by the Association Patron In-chief Dr Nasir Hussain, Chairman Dr Shasawar and other cabinet members, Dr Qadir demanded increase in monthly stipend for trainee doctors serving house jobs in various public hospitals to recognize their services.
He also appealed Chief Justice Peshawar High Court to take action against the ‘black sheep’ in health department, who were tried to deprive the doctors community of casting their votes in PDA by-election and politicized the process, he alleged.
Dr Qadir threatened of having option to launch a peaceful protest movement and sit-in infront of Parliament House in Islamabad, if their genuine demands were not met within a month.
However, he said that free, fair and transparent elections of the Association would be conducted soon to maintain democratic culture in the doctor community.
