KARACHI: Two security personnel were killed when unidentified armed men attacked a vehicle of the security forces here on Tuesday.
Police said that unknown armed men riding motorcycles ambushed a military vehicle near Parking Plaza in Saddar area of the metropolis city of Karachi and escaped from the scene of the crime.
Two personnel of a sensitive agency were injured in the gun attack and were rushed to hospital where they succumbed to their wounds. Director Emergency Department at Jinnah Hospital, Dr Seemi Jamali confirmed the death of both the personnel identified as Abdul Razzaq and Khadim Hussain.
Rangers and police teams reached the scene, cordoned off the area and launched investigations. Karachi police chief Mushtaq Mehr also visited the crime scene.
Speaking on the occasion, Mushtaq Mehr said, "We are trying to obtain CCTV footage in order to find clues about the assailants."
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on military personnel in Karachi. He directed Ministry of Interior and government of Sindh to hunt down these cowards.
"We will not allow these terrorists to derail the ongoing operation for restoration of peace in Karachi," he said in a statement.
The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad in a statement, condemned the attack and termed it a conspiracy to create unrest in the city.
It is worth to mention that this was the second attack on intelligence agencies in Karachi in six months.
In December 2015, two personnel of Military Police were killed in a similar attack near Tibet Center.
