Cut in HEC funds to force closure of varsities

MULTAN - The teaching staff of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan observed a complete strike against cut on the budget of Higher Education here on Monday. Academic work got completely suspended in the varsity because of faculty’s agitation. The protest call was given by All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (APUASA) to protest a drastic cut imposed by the government on the budget for Higher Education in Pakistan. All the faculty members came with black armbands and gathered at the office of Academic Staff Association office under the leadership of President Abdul Quddoos Sohaib. They shouted slogans against the government and demanded immediate restoration of funds. They warned that almost all universities would have to face a complete shut down if the funds were not restored. They told the journalists that the APUASA had convened a general body meeting on June 28 during which future line of action would be decided. The ASA Multan president Dr. Abdul Quddoos Sohaib and general secretary Farrukh Arsalan Siddiqui would participate in the meeting.
