KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel has arrived in Karachi where he will attend a high-level meeting, to oversee the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.
He will head to the Corps Headquarter and Rangers Headquarter where he will be briefed on the existing security situation in the city after a recent wave of violence, which includes the kidnapping of the son of SHC Chief Justice and the killing of Amjad Sabri.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has also touched down in Karachi, and holding a meeting Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad.
A high-level session of the apex committee will be convened which will also be attended by the senior officials of the Sindh government.
The high-level meetings are being held in the backdrop of two recent incidents in Karachi – killing of renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri and abduction Sindh High Court chief justice’s son.
Sources informed that the key decisions could be taken in the wake of meetings to be attended by army chief and interior minister.
The son of SHC Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was kidnapped in Clifton on June 20, but the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) remained clueless about his disappearance until the family pointed it out hours later. The law-enforcers finally declared the incident a case of kidnapping after collecting evidence and recording eyewitness accounts.
Amjad Sabri, 45, was travelling by car from his home in the city’s Liquatabad area to a television studio, when a motorcycle pulled up alongside the vehicle and the attackers opened fire, thus killing him on the spot.
Sabri was hit by five bullets and was declared dead at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
