First round of peace talks with Taliban concludes: Extension in ceasefire agreed

ISLAMABAD- The first round of direct peace talks between the government and Taliban teams concluded at a secret location in North Waziristan tribal region today.

The sides agreed over extension in cease-fire, sources said. The two teams also considered to fix a time-frame for the dialogue. The two sides in the talks at a secret place also sought guarantors for the commitments made in the peace talks. According to sources, Taliban team demanded the government for avoiding military operation in the affected areas. They also urged for setting a time-frame for release of the prisoners. The government committee comprises of Pakistan's former ambassador Rustam Shah Mohmand, additional Chief Secretary FATA Arbab Arif, Secretary Ports and Shipping Habibullah Khattak and additional Secretary to Prime Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad.

The two committees and the members of Tehreek e Taliban Shura discussed extension in cease-fire, exchange of prisoners and other matters. Earlier, the members of the government team contacted Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali after their reaching the venue of the talks and consulted over various issues related to the dialogue.
