The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday kicked off three-day Spring Floral Show.
With numerous plants and flowers on display, the flower show also has a landscape features ornaments along with rangoli section.
The show was inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad who was flanked by all deans and directors. The show arranged by Institute of Horticulture Science remained a centre of attraction for the flowers lovers who thronged the UAF to have a delight of the spring colours. With the venue at the heart of the city, ‘the Flower Show’ is the ideal place for families.
Addressing on the occasion, the UAF Vice Chancellor said that the flowers give us the message of peace, love and tolerance. He stressed the need to promote the tolerance among the society which is showing a declining trend. He said that floriculture industry had gained an immense importance. The country can earn heavy foreign exchange by promoting it. He urged the youth to explore their God given qualities so that the country can progress rapidly. He said that in the Green Universities ranking, the UAF is standing at the 35th position.
Director Horticulture Prof Dr Aslam Pervez said that main objective of the show is to provide a platform for students to show their expertise in arranging the flowers and give a message of peace. He said that it would also provide healthy entertainment to the residents of city of textile Faisalabad.
PAUS pays tribute to Prof Farakh: A meeting of the Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons was held to pay homage to Prof Farakh A Khan (late) who had been awarded with Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan in recognition of his services.
He was the founder member of PAUS. He was elected its first un-opposed president in 1997. He was the author of a number of books and research publications in the field of urology, archaeology and history of medicine. He was one of the pioneers to start specialisation in urology. He supervised and trained many postgraduates. He was also instrumental in starting Kidney Transplant Surgery & Endo-urology in Pakistan. He was member of many national and international academic bodies.
PAUS Faisalabad President Dr Safdar Hassan Sial presented the citation of Prof Farakh A Khan. Prof Zahid Iqbal said that Khan was a legend in the field of urology and humanity. He was teacher of the teachers. Dr Abdul Hafiz Kardar suggested to follow in his footsteps. Dr Akram Malik, Dr Ghulam Mahboob Subhani, Dr Ashraf Ali Jafari, Dr Muhammad Ali, Dr Muhammad Akmal Samore, Dr Muhammad Irfan Munir, Dr Hafiz Saifur Rehman, Dr Muhammad Sohail, Dr Muhammad Yasin, Dr Imran Qadir, Dr Naeem Ashraf, Dr Moin Anwar and Dr Awais Noor also paid tribute to Prof Khan.
Besides, the topic of “Urinary Tract Infections” was also on the agenda of meeting. Outgrowing trends of antimicrobial resistance in “Urinary Tract Infection” were also discussed in details.
At the end of the meeting, PAUS members gave proposals about the forthcoming PAUS National Conference being held in Karachi.
